Lorneville Memorial Monument to Veterans and Fishermen

Dedicated June 11, 2022

A “Memorial to Veterans and Fishermen” was unveiled at a dedication Ceremony at Lorneville Cemetery on June 11, 2022. The Monument has the names of the Veterans from Lorneville who lost their lives fighting for our Country and did not return home, and the names of the Fishermen from Lorneville who lost their lives at sea.

It also has the names of the War Veterans from Lorneville who have been buried in the Lorneville and Seaview Cemeteries, and the names of the earliest immigrant settlers to Lorneville.

The Memorial Monument was conceived and designed by Philip McCavour, who also managed various phases of the installation. Excavation and backfill for a concrete base took place in the fall of 2021and a stone block patio was installed. The Patio was constructed by Scholten’s Landscaping.

SMET Monuments in St. Stephen was engaged to make and install the three section Monument and two Memorial Benches on either side. They manufactured the Monument and Benches in 2022 and delivered and placed them in Lorneville Cemetery.

The dedication ceremony took place in front of invited guests and dignitaries, members of the Royal Canadian Legion and Lorneville residents. After the ceremony attendees were invited to a reception at Lorneville Community Center to enjoy refreshments and a pictorial display of Lorneville Veterans and Fishermen and other improvement projects made to the Community Cemeteries
