2023 Annual Fundraising Mailout

This is our Annual Fundraising Mail Out for 2023. Thank you to everyone who has

contributed to the maintenance and care of our Community Cemeteries over the years. Funds raised through this annual appeal are used for necessary maintenance work on the burial grounds. We also apply to government for grants for student or summer youth workers to assist with maintenance. Special capital projects like the Veterans & Fishermen’s Memorial are funded through separate targeted appeals to individuals, the corporate sector, community groups and government

Installation and dedication of the Veterans and Fishermen’s Memorial Monument was our main focus in 2022. This project was initiated at the 2021 AGM of Shareholders, and undertaken over two fiscal years 2021 and 2022. It was commissioned to SMET Monuments of St. Stephen NB and consists of a three panel centerpiece and two memorial benches on a stone patio. The Monument memorializes the Veterans and fishermen of Lomeville who lost their lives, and their parents; all of the Veterans who are buried in the two cemeteries, and their parents; and the first settlers of the community. The Monument was dedicated on Saturday, June 11, 2022, in a well attended ceremony at Lorneville Cemetery. Total project costs were $50,000, all of which were raised separately without needing any cemetery operating/maintenance funds

On the maintenance and operational side in 2022 we were approved for grants from NB SEED and Canada Jobs. Initially no qualified candidates applied and we could only find a youth worker for July and August. Board Members and volunteers filled the early season maintenance gap, as well as planning for the Monument Dedication. There were fourteen burials in 2022 and four new stone monuments were placed

To those who have reserved plots in the Cemeteries please consider making annual donations. We need your help to keep your final resting place attractive. It is only through charitable donations from individuals that we can maintain the Cemeteries to current standards. All donations are tax deductible. Payment options and procedures are outlined on the reverse. Please also mention us as a preferred Charity for Memorial Donations when preparing obituaries for loved ones

Yours truly
